Lifetime of usage

Reading about apps like Double Entry, I see one get updates for a year, but a lifetime of usage.

Will that not be limited by compatibility with newer versions of the Akaunting software?
I my latest update for the app lagging behind, won't the chances of it breaking increase as Akaunting evolves?

(Any difference here in regards to hosted vs self-hosted?)

Well, by accepting to not get updates of apps, you also accept to stay behind on new features/changes of Akaunting. So any kind of break is your own responsibility.

Same for cloud or self-hosted.

Not really worried about features, but lagging behind on security patches is something I will not consider.
So in reality apps will always be the initial price + the same price minus 20 % annually.
(Unless I can turn back time and join the Kickstarter and get lifetime updates ...) ;-)

Not sure I understood for cloud version, though. I assumed the platform/Akaunting would always be updated to the latest version(?), so if I buy an app that's not updated, it will eventually break.
