integrating Gmail with Akaunting?

I am looking to see if any users have successfully integrated Google Workspace email (Gmail) with Akaunting.

I know how to create kludgy workarounds that will fail in the future. Google uses an OAUTH2 authentication dialog.

Am I to assume that Akaunting does not support Google's secure email authentication / transmission?

Hello Folks,

My initial iteration of a solution to this question used a kludgy workaround that is not recommended by Google, but successfully sent an Akaunting invoice via a paid Google Workspace email account.

The first step involves following these detailed instructions, which require a high level of administrative (root) access to your Akaunting server:

https://linuxconfig.org/configuring-gmail-as-sendmail-email-relay

After following these instructions, change the Akaunting Email Service settings to Protocol -> Sendmail and you will achieve success.

I am continuing to uncover a solution that will work with Google's OAUTH2 dialog that is Google's more secure method for authenticating to send mail using Google's mail servers.

create an app password within the google account - https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords

it's a 16-digit 'password' that gets created that replaces your gmal password in the smtp settings, and is used to get through the secure authentication.

If you plan on using that password elsewhere, be sure to write it down. once you view it and close the window, you're never able to view it again. You'd need to create a brand new app password instead.

app password only works with two factor authentication. i am not using that.
